1.Know it is God's desire to guide you by reading the scripture. God has given his word for you to know his will and desire. You can confidently take what he has said and apply the promise to your life.
2.Ask God to guide you on purpose and specifically. Jesus said during the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 7, verse 7
Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
When you specifically ask, you acknowledge your need and position yourself to be ready to receive from the Lord.
3.Consciously choose to believe God is guiding you. This is the stuff of faith, your choice to believe the promise. Hebrews 11:1 says that faith is the substance or as one translation puts it the title deed to what you are believing for.
4.Confess out loud God is guiding my steps today. With the heart, you believe, with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation, or deliverance. (Romans 10:9-10) The things you say with your mouth are the things that will occur in your life, for they are the things you truly believe. If you want God's guidance, then say He is guiding me and do not allow your mouth to speak anything against it.
5.Step out and do the thing in front of you. Only a moving object can be lead. Step out in faith and do the thing you see to do. If God wants you to do something else, it is His job to tell or show you. You do your part and allow God to do his part.
6.Rest in the confidence that he is leading you. After you’ve asked for guidance based upon the promise, and you’ve confessed your faith in his willingness and ability to guide you, let your spirit rest in his faithfulness.
7.Resist doubt and impatience. Do not allow thoughts of doubt or confusion to shake you. Push aside those negative thoughts and reaffirm your choice to believe God's promise.
8.Pause often throughout the day to open your mind and heart to God's leading. Do not be so focused on what you are doing that you cannot respond to God's prompting you in another direction. Just a moment now and then to check your spirit to make sure the peace of God is leading.
9.Follow impressions as you receive them. When you receive an impression to do or say something you hadn't expected, offer a quick prayer, then do it with humbleness, expecting God to honor your effort by showing you this is the right path , or showing you it is not. Either way, you have followed the leading of the Lord.
10.Thank and praise Him for his guidance. When you have been uncertain and God has shown you the way, sometimes the relief is so great you can forget to thank him. Thanksgiving and praise is always appropriate and necessary for it again acknowledges your complete dependence upon him.
Proverbs 3:5-6 ( KJV ) Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
