This week-end featured spectacular weather here in Pensacola. The sky was clear, the azaleas blooming, and the temperature was mild. In short, it was perfect weather for the beach, but I spent most of the week-end in front of my computer, working on this blog. Why would I do that, when I truly love to go to the beach?

I resisted the need to spend the week-end at the beach and chose to work because of the expected benefit from working, which is I hope to say something of value to you, the reader. Working this week-end was more important to me, at least right now, than the pleasure of playing all week-end.

This got me to thinking about the choices we make every day.

  • Every time we make a choice, even a small one, we make a statement about what is most important to us.
  • How often do we go with the easier path instead of thinking about what we are doing?
  • When we choose to sleep in instead of getting up that extra thirty minutes to read the Bible and pray, we make the statement that our personal comfort of the moment is more important that spending time with God.
  • Every time we indulge in gossip instead of resisting and walking away, we make the statement that others' feelings are not as important as our entertainment for the moment.
  • Every time we are rude to a salesperson or waitress, we make the statement that our own feelings or agenda is more important than that of someone else.
  • Every time we make the choice to sit on the sofa instead of going for a walk, we make the statement that our health is not as important as our comfort of the moment.

Choices have to do with what is valuable to us. We choose the thing we value to most. Think about the choices you make today. Do those choices truly reflect your values? It you find they do not, then join me in changing those choices to reflect what we truly value in life.

Blessings;
Kay

No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
Matthew 6:24 (NIV)
